Getting An MRI?... Some Things You Should Know Before You Have Your First MRI

| Comments (18)

Due to a recent traffic accident (where I was hit from behind), I've been experiencing neck and lower back pain. My chiropractor recommended an MRI.

I had my first-ever MRI yesterday, and I'll admit I was a tad nervous.

Mostly because of the claustrophobic thing. But also because of the magnetized machinery thing. (The entire MRI scanner is magnetized such that it is strong enough to send things like hospital guernies, floor buffer machines, and office equipment flying across the room in the process of being SUCKED into the machine itself!)

These visuals (and these stories) were stuck in my brain the entire time:

The strength of the MRI's magnet is evidenced by the fact that this loaded metal pallet was sucked into the MRI scanner. Here's an office chair that was sucked into an MRI scanner.

But, I also managed to find some humorous things about the whole process of getting an MRI.

In the event that you have to go in for an MRI in the near future, perhaps you will find some value in the things that I learned:

How Long Should A Cell Phone Battery Last?

| Comments (6)

It's not that I talk on my cell phone much. Quite the contrary... I have so many Cingular rollover minutes built-up each month, you wouldn't believe it!

But my cell phone battery still loses its charge, so I have to go through the motions of charging up my phone... then finding it's dead just when I need it most... and recharging it all over again.

So, I wonder... just how long is the battery in a cell phone supposed to last, anyway?

My Cell Battery Only Lasted A Year

Motorola V400 cell phone. After a year of using my Motorola V400 cell phone (with Cingular service ...love 'em!), I came to the realization that I needed a whole new lithium-ion rechargeable battery for it already.

One year just doesn't seem very long for a battery to last -- in my opinion.

So I asked the guys at Batteries Plus (in Cool Springs, TN) for their take on how long a cell phone battery should last.

They gave me a couple of great tips to improve your cell phone battery life!...

What's Your Blood Pressure? (Ahhhh, it doesn't matter anyway...)

| Comments (1)

...or does it?

That pretty much summarizes my take on the whole blood pressure monitoring thing lately.

You see, the "professionals" always seem to get a (vastly!) different reading on my blood pressure -- no matter what time of the day, or where I'm having it done. I just don't get it. Truthfully, I'm not sure they do either.

If you too, are concerned (and just as confused) about your blood pressure readings, then read on...

For the record, here's what the blood pressure numbers mean:

Normal: < 120 and < 80
Prehypertension Stage 1: 120-139 or 80-89
Hypertension Stage 2: 140-159 or 90-99
Hypertension: >160 or >100
