Are You A Guy Dealing With Hair Loss?... Shave Your Head Bald Like Jim Did!

| Comments (15)

Men... Are you (or someone you know) dealing with thinning hair? Bald spots? Excessive hair loss? Male patterned baldness?

They've found a cure for baldness...
It's called acceptance!

At least that's the way Jim felt when he started losing his hair several years ago.

Following is a step-by-step photo collage of the process Jim went through the day he decided to shave his head and start living life as a bald man... by choice.

Before... jim-fishing-boat.jpg jim-fishing-water.jpg jim-smiile.jpg

...After

Want a few tips from someone who's been there, done that? See how Jim did it -- and why he's glad he did ...

How It Happened...

Days after our wedding in 1999, Jim took on a whole new look.
wedding-picture.jpg

It all started with "a bad haircut".

At the age of 36, with just enough hair left on his head to prevent him from putting "bald" on his drivers license, Jim asked me what I thought about him just shaving it all off. (I think he figured it would grow back in a matter of days.)

shaving-head-bald.jpg His haircut was pretty bad... and I didn't see that we had much to lose, so I encouraged him to go for it!

He immediately grabbed his beard trimmer and got to work... I think he was afraid he'd change his mind if he'd slept on it a night or two. I've never seen so much determination in this man as the day he committed to shaving his head bald!

Big Hairy Deal!

As you can see, Jim is a pretty hairy guy. (Everywhere except for on his head, that is!)

According to "The Buzz On His Fuzz" in Cosmo:

The hair on his pecs can speak volumes about his psyche. Specifically, one study showed a connection between excessive body hair and extra intelligence... among other things.

Just A Little Off The Top

Jim started by using his trusty 'ol beard trimmer first, to get the bulk of what hair remained on his head.

That got pretty close... but not close enough.

Finish With A Smooth Shave Using A Close-Edge Razor

This was the part that felt the best. And looked the best when it was all said & done.

Well, that is... until...

We Started Seeing Spots!

Jim spotted them first...

say-what-1.jpg say-what-2.jpg

Then, the red spots became really obvious... even from a distance!

seeing-spots-1.jpg seeing-spots-2.jpg seeing-spots-3.jpg

OMG, What Have We Done?!

Jim got so nervous, he started pacing. He was second-guessing whether he had done the right thing by shaving his head.

He eventually had to take it outside...

Luckily, our dog Jersey was there to console him.

Ready To Be Seen In Public?

Luckily, Jim had a couple of days to try & get the red dots to go away before he had to go back to work.

So the next course of action was to put on a hat and head to the nearest pharmacy to see what they could prescribe for all the red spots.

The recommendation: "Try some Cortisone Cream... and no, you shouldn't have put that Nair on your head to 'speed up the process'."

jim-in-suit-and-tie.jpg Luckily, the Cortizone Cream worked... kind of. When he returned to work 3 days later, the red dots were still visible. But they weren't nearly as bad as before.

I give Jim props for the bravery to not only go to work in a "professional" office with a head full of spots... but also for his fearless attitude showing up in a suit and tie with a bald head for the very first time.

Luckily, he really did look good bald. And, spots or no spots, it was a change for the better. Everyone seemed to agree.

To this day, I find it hard to imagine Jim anything other than bald. It's a look that suits him so perfectly! I guess some guys have the skull for it, and some don't. Fortunately, Jim has it.

Bald Is Beautiful!

happy-with-shaved-head.jpg Not only did Jim look younger and even more attractive than before he shaved his head...

He also began to gain notoriety in town as a celebrity of sorts.

Yep, he practically became famous overnight! Little kids (and even many adults) would stop and stare at Jim in restaurants... grocery stores... anytime he was in public. wrestler-stone-cold-steve-austin.jpg

Why? Because they thought he was either Stone Cold Steve Austin (the wrestler).

jesse-ventura-governor-wrestler.jpgOr, Minnesota Governor (and former pro-wrestler), Jesse Ventura.

Or even Jerry Springer's on-air bouncer, Steve Wilkos!

Often, after Jim would explain that he wasn't who they thought he was, they still wouldn't believe him. They thought he just didn't want to be seen in public or something.

Hi!

I have been trying to deal with the hair-loss dilemna for some-time now. To try & hide it I would get my hair styled in certain ways to hide my bald spot(s) that were starting to show up & the receding hairline, but the hairstyles & haircuts only helped for a short-while. This last year or so I have been shaving my head bald almost every other day (it has taken a bit of getting used to, I must admit!) & there is no experience quite like having your head shaved bald by a barber or your partner...It is simply awesome! I have now become quite used to being bald-by-choice & others are getting used to the idea as well. I am only 43 & I am now resigned to the fact that I was born to be bald. I don't have any other option. If others are thinking about this choice, all I would advise is just do it! You will love the look & feel of it! SO.oooooo Smooooth!!

Why shave your head?

You can treat it at home with natural remedies like theses:

# Use olive oil to prevent hair loss. Pour half a cup of olive oil on your hair, massage the scalp well, wait for 5 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water.
# Honey can help you treat hair loss. Take 1 tablespoon of honey and mix it with warm water to make it more liquid. Apply the liquid only on the hair roots so it won't stick to your hair and let it stand for 10 minutes. Wash with warm water.
# Rosemary leaves can help prevent more hair loss. Make rosemary water by boiling some leaves with water. Use the mixture to wash your hair and make it stronger and healthier.
# Break 1 egg and separate the yolk and the whites. Use only the egg yolk, stir and add 1 tablespoon of honey in it. Apply the mixture on the hair roots or the scalp and let it stand for 10 minutes. Wash with semi-cold water so the egg won't stick to your hair.
# Chop a few leaves of fresh lettuce; apply the slices on the scalp to treat hair loss.

Good Info! I will keep reading...

Best treatment of hair loss problem is accept it. If you can't hide your baldness than show it. Many people can't afford hair transplantation but they have another solution. it is completely bald.

Hi Jim,
Great look mate. I decided to go the full shave on a holiday last year, have now been bald for just over twelve months and won't be going back. It took a bit of courage at first but then I just thought who am I kidding anyway. Electric razor or blades are fine, if i feel the need for that extra smooth feel, the blade is the way to go. Hate loath and detest comb-overs!

Great move! I decided to be bald nearly 3 years ago and enjoy it. Saves money on shampoo, no "bad hair days", nice and cool during summer, women like to rub it, and don't have to worry about blow-dryers, $35 hair cuts, time getting ready in the morning, etc...

Keep it clean ya bald headed hippie!! :P

Enjoy,

Jim -

Thought I might reaffirm your decision a little more by sending you this:

2007 Survey Results released on Female Opinions of Bald Men

97% of women surveyed say bald men can be sexy; 71% oppose bald men getting transplants; a bald man's confidence is very important to women surveyed.

COON RAPIDS, Minn. (September 17, 2007) The Brotherhood of Bald People Worldwide has released the results of their 2007 survey featuring opinions from women on bald men.

The 23-question survey was presented to women residing in various places within the United States to get their opinions and attitudes toward bald men, their sex appeal, dating, and overall opinions on baldness. Complete survey results are posted on The Brotherhood of Bald People Worldwide's website at www.brotherhoodofbaldpeople.com

"Brotherhood of Bald People Worldwide was curious to get the results. Probably the most amazing discovery in doing this was how much the women enjoyed helping us out," explained Mike Ubl, Founder and Mission Director of Brotherhood of Bald People Worldwide.

Hi,Jim!

I have been fighting the decision to be "Bald-By-Choice" for sometime, but the decision was literally made for me. On a visit to my barber for a trim last Tuesday my barber simply shaved my head bald. As I sat in the barber's chair expecting just to have my hair trimmed (I normally have a #2 all over), the barber reduced my hair to stubble on a #00000 blade and then soaked my head & lathered & shaved it smooth! He said to me that he had decided that since it was summer & was getting pretty warm that I wasn't going to be needing the hair, which in-fact is receding quite noticeably & that I have a classic MPB developing at the crown of my head and so the only real "hair style" that I would suit is SHAVED !!

My wife, although not a great fan of the bald pate, loves to feel & kiss my smooth shaved head.

It has now been 4 days bald & I am loving it. I can actually feel the breeze on my head. Awesome!

Here's to a smooth bald future.

Regards,

Bill
