But, the fact is, many people do choose to use wallpaper as part of their home decorating scheme.

And you know what?

Wallpaper can actually look quite nice when selected and applied properly!

With today’s new peel and remove wallpaper, the old days of standing with a steamer and a scraper for days are pretty much over. If you haven’t looked at wallpaper in the past few years, take the time to rediscover it. There are so many new textures and options that wallpaper has become fun again.  Source

Yep, wallpaper is a great way to spruce up your home. Thanks to today’s modern printing techniques, you can choose from beautiful color palettes, as well as gorgeous designs — more than ever before.

So, even if you’ve never considered using wallpaper in your home before, you may want to think about wallpapering one or two rooms — or just one or two walls — to add little zing to your home decor.

If rock bottom is your bottom line, then a simple paint job is probably the way to go. But if you were planning on spending a little more to get a really nice paint job — perhaps one with murals, borders or faux finishes — then you might want to consider wallpaper.  Source

By incorporating your unique personality and style, wallpapering is a wonderful way to decorate your home and make it your own!

Here are some modern home wallpaper designs, plus tips for hanging wallpaper yourself…

Tips For Working With Modern Home Wallpaper

Figure out how much wallpaper you need before you actually choose your wallpaper. That way, you’ll know ahead of time if you should buy a wallpaper that’s on sale, based on how much they have and how much you actually need.

Use this wallpaper calculator based on the height and width of your walls.

Sand your walls in order to smooth out any bumps and imperfections that might be on the walls. You don’t want any imperfections to show up underneath the wallpaper. If you’re going to re-paper a wall that’s already got wallpaper on it, use these tips to remove the old wallpaper:

Be sure to buy a few extra rolls of wallpaper — just in case! In the event you miscalculated the size of your walls or how much wallpaper you needed (or if you have to do repairs later), then you will already have the wallpaper on hand.

NOTE:  Be aware of the fact that rolls of wallpaper have dye lots. Ideally, the wallpaper purchased for an entire room should all be from the same dye lot. Otherwise, shades, hues, and patterns may not match up perfectly.

Don’t worry about wallpaper glue because most wallpaper has a paste on the back these days. All you have to do is soak the wallpaper in water, and then hang it up on your wall.

To add an elegant touch to any room, consider the new embossed wallpaper that is quite popular right now. It is beautiful because it actually has a raised pattern. One downside is that it is a bit more expensive than regular wallpaper.

Create an accent wall. Start by setting a focal point. Wallpaper has made a serious comeback and will create a dramatic effect. Choose a large-scale pattern, such as this muted damask in calming hues of French blue and pewter. Cover one wall with the wallpaper, and paint the other walls and the ceiling a corresponding soft color. Check out stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s and online retailers for great wallpaper designs at affordable prices. Source

To brighten up a room up, foil wallpaper is a great option. As with embossed wallpaper, foil wallpaper can be quite expensive, but the brightness it adds to the room may be worth it. It all depends on what your purpose for the room is.

Asian motif wallpaper is a great complement for a simple uncluttered home. Most have figures or floral patterns that are very simple, yet powerful. They don’t look good in a cluttered space, but in spaces with clean, simple lines that are uncluttered, Asian wallpapers look fantastic!

Flower wallpaper is hot. Floral wallpaper… not so much. What’s the difference? Flower wallpaper typically features single, decorative flowers with large blooms, intricate petal details, bright colors, and unique designs. Floral wallpaper is more like the old-fashioned flower-and-vine patterns that your mother or grandmother had on her walls.

NOTE:  In order for flower wallpaper to work best in a room, the room should also have a lot of solid, plain colors and surfaces elsewhere to complement the bolder, brighter flower patterns. Otherwise, the room could be perceived as “too loud.”

You can even have your own design put onto wallpaper! It’s definitely more expensive, but if you’re an artist (or even just someone who dabbles in art), then the ability to create wallpaper with your own design is really cool. It’s a great way to make your home truly unique!

TIP:  Consider having your favorite photo or painting (one that you’ve painted) digitally added to wallpaper. It’s a great way to put art on your wall without having go the traditional route with a frame or poster. Wall murals are another way to add a fun twist to wallpaper. Today’s wallpaper is at the forefront of the freshest and trendiest interior design fashions and can be used to great effect when decorating your home. Modern wallpaper not only looks and feels good, but it can really uplift and inspire, and introduce a sense of style and design to any interior space. Wallpaper can add texture and depth to a room – even the most subtle texture or pattern can add the illusion of depth and warmth that paint cannot. Source
