You've probably seen Randy Pausch a lot on the news lately. He's the Carnegie Mellon Professor who is dying from pancreatic cancer.
What makes him -- and his message -- so memorable are the amazing details of his life (and our lives in general) that Randy shared in his "Last Lecture" on September 18, 2007.
Watch the video below...
Okay, this one is definitely NOT fun. But it is real.
And we like to share things that are fact-based and real around here. In much the same way that we've shared the stories of Steve Vaught (aka 'Fat Man Walking'... his words, not mine), Cancer Giggles -- a site bringing joy to people living with cancer, and Mike's secret blog for his pregnant wife called Love Lori, among others.
Today's entry is about AT and BJ.
I first heard about their story through a friend of a friend over at the TennesseeBloggers.com website. Then some Rocky Top Brigaders went above and beyond to spread the prayer chain.
The end result was certainly something no one could have predicted. Especially since it happened so fast...
This one's a little far-fetched... but I can visualize a fairly unique personal memento in the end...
Kim Komando turned me onto the Health Age Calculator -- an online tool that helps you determine how "in" or "out"-of-line your Health Age is with your True Age.
It takes into consideration your responses to a number of personal and family-history related questions. Don't worry, it doesn't pry too much (which also means it's less reliable than say, your DOCTOR!), but it's enough to give you a general idea as to the direction you and your body are headed in, and roughly how long you can expect to live at this rate.
Kim said: "You already know that diet and exercise affect your life expectancy. But this test incorporates other things, like psychological issues and risk taking. And if you don't like the results, it can help you decide what to change."
It's too cooooool! I did it, and here's what I found out...
An idiot's guide to accepting, living with, laughing at and dying from cancer
There are a few people in my life who are LIVING with cancer and I, for one, cannot begin to imagine what they are going through.
Such is why I am intrigued whenever I hear another first-person story of someone's life with cancer, including their coping mechanisms, the highs and lows, the ups and downs, and the ultimate realities of struggling to survive this battle with something called "cancer".
Most of all, I appreciate when people are able to maintain their sense of humor through it all.
Today in church, Dave spoke about our tendency as a society to rush through life -- over-busy and under-satisfied.
Do you feel like you're running in circles? Spinning your wheels? Unable to focus? Overwhelmed? Got a "To Do" list longer than your grocery list? Doing a lot of different things, but not getting anything "done"?
Today's message reminded me of this awesome poem with an incredible point-of-view on Life.
It's all about living your life so you'll have no regrets...
